Thrive
Boston Counseling and Psychotherapy Post-Masters
LMHC Training Program The LMHC Licensure board for the Commonwealth of
Massachusetts has strong regulations for what constitutes appropriate experience
that qualifies a post-masters degree LMHC candidate for licensure. The following information is presented to give basic
information on what is required by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Board of
Licensure, as well as to demonstrate how Thrive Boston Counseling may meet Board
of Licensure requirements. Note: For an exhaustive description of all pre-masters
and post-masters requirements for LMHC licensure, please visit the Mass.Gov
website, Division of Professional Licensure, section 262 CMR 2.00: Requirements
For Licensure As a Mental Health Counselor. For your
convenience, a link to that webpage is available here: http://www.mass.gov Please Note: In an effort to best describe the Thrive
Boston Counseling post-masters LMHC Training Program, some text from the MA Board
of Licensure Website was used. Post-master’s Hours To qualify for
LMHC licensure in MA, applicants must complete a minimum of two years of
full-time (or equivalent part-time) post-master's degree supervised clinical
field experience in mental health counseling, providing direct/face-to-face
client contact with individuals, groups, or families. Total Hours required
= 3,360 Note: a maximum
of 250 hours of the required 960 contact hours may be group client contact
experience. Supervision Requirements Individual
Supervision Hours Required = minimum of 75 Third Note: The
supervisor must be a staff member of the site who is an approved supervisor or must
be a contracted supervisor who has entered into a written agreement with the
individual and the site to provide supervision either on or off site. Clinical Field Experience Sites According to the
Commonwealth of Massachusetts LMHC Board of Licensure, “Clinical field
experience sites for pre and post masters field experience training include
public and private health and mental health institutions that have integrated
programs for the delivery of clinical mental health counseling, and have
established provisions for appropriate supervision. Note: Neither
individual nor group private practice experience will be accepted as a
qualifying clinical field experience.” Also, a
provision for emergency contact must be in place for all work placement
settings. The emergency contact individual DOES NOT replace the requirement for
an approved supervisor. Thrive
Boston Counseling Post-Masters LMHC Training Program Thrive Boston Counseling meets the required standards of
the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, described above. As an operating counseling
center in the City of Cambridge, we are a private mental health institution
with an integrated program for the delivery of clinical mental health
counseling. In addition, we have established provisions for post-masters
LMHC applicants who are employees of Thrive Boston Counseling to receive appropriate
supervision (a minimum of one hour of supervision for every 16 hours of direct
client care, as well as emergency contact provisions) by an approved supervisor
who is a Thrive Boston Counseling staff member, or an approved supervisor contracted
to provide professional supervision. Thirdly, Thrive Boston Counseling (Thrive Counseling LLC)
is a legal corporate entity and individuals—specifically in this instance,
post-masters LMHC candidates—working for Thrive Boston Counseling are not in
private practice, nor are they in a group private practice. Private practice is
defined as “The practice
of a profession independently and not as an employee.” Persons
working for Thrive Boston Counseling are hired employees of Thrive Boston
Counseling Center. Thrive Boston Counseling strives not just to provide an LMHC training program that meets minimum Massachusetts standards, Thrive Boston Counseling strives to provide experience and training that is unprecedented by other institutions in Massachusetts. NOTE:
Thrive Counseling LLC offers this program in good faith, with the best
of their understanding and interpretation of the regulations set fourth
by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts LMHC Licensure Board. Applicants
should do their due diligence in confirming that this program meets the
qualifications necessary for their post-masters expereince for LMHC
licensure. Acceptance into our program is competitive, and the training
is intensive. Potential applicants may tenure their questions or resume to
