Bio
Sumio Shinohara, Psy. D is a licensed clinical psychologist. He is bi-lingual, speaking both English and Japaneese Fluently.
Sumio is a graduate of the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology in Boston. Sumio has worked as an emergency Service clinician at Riverside Emergency Services in Norwood, a division of Riverside Community Care, where he provided psychiatric and substance abuse assessment, emergency evaluation, and hospital prescreening as well as counseling individuals in crisis.
Sumio has also worked in a manufacturing organization, Based in California, as an administrator and an industrial psychologist where he engaged in personnel and managerial practices in addition to taking care of employees’ mental health.
Sumio first came to this country as an international student and worked for corporations both in Japan and the U.S, which has given him the special sensitivity to the psychological needs of international students as well as to the needs of persons facing difficulties and struggles in different cultural settings.
Sumio’s primary approach is eclectic with a mixture of psychoanalytic conceptualization and humanistic orientations. Sumio acknowledges and cherishes the importance of faith in religions and its role for the improvements of clients’ mental health.
