Counselor and Life Coach Marketing: A Portrait of Common Difficulties

February 8, 2009 – 6:20 pm

The Following is a letter that Thrive Boston Counseling received this week, from a person who has been trying to market his Life Coaching Practice. Even though this life coach has a specific area of specialty (Divorce prevention) and some level of certification, he is still struggling and states he needs to be almost “a perpetrator” to find clients.
I have seen that problems like this are very common with individual providers trying to begin a private practice in counselor or life coaching.

After reading your article in ‘Christian Counseling Today’, I thought it appropiate to send you guys my thoughts on online coaching. I’m a struggling Christian Life Coach for Divorce Prevention & Recovery. Most of my clients come from online resources mentioned in your article.
Unfortunately, I have to seek them out, almost at the point of being a ‘perpatrator’. I’ve found most of the people hurting, will not seek help or stratagies in overcoming their hurts and discomforts in relationships. Viewing their profiles aids me in contacting them on their struggles. Although rejection still persists, some are willing to grow through their hurts.
Realizing what I’m doing is not therapy, in my cases, it’s been benefical I pursue the intial contacting. In so doing, it eliminates the fear most have in attending a meeting and I can span my region…

Sincerely,
